Come on DOWN to RIVERTOWN!!! Saturday, January 20th (5 - 8 PM)

The Kenner RIvertown Arts Council presents...

Down By The River: P.S. Satellite - A Project of Prospect New Orleans

The exhibition is a curated selection of art in various media that emphasizes our relationship with the water in which we live with every day. From the river to the lake, to the swamps and surrounding spillways, we are surrounded and connected. A selection of local artists interprets their personal interactions with the water involving topics such as life, meditation, peace, growth, healing, nourishment, recreation, mythology, satire, even fear and adventure. Just like the river, our lives are ever changing moving and connected to each other.

The exhibition will include murals and a Pop Up art exhibition in the Kenner Rivertown Community Courtyard.

Artist/Curator Peter Barnitz on the inspiration for the exhibition...

"The face of the water, in time, became a wonderful painting--a painting that was a dead language to the uneducated passenger, but which told its mind to me without reserve, delivering its most cherished secrets as clearly as if it uttered them with voice.  And it was not a painting to be visited once and thrown aside, for it had a new story to tell every day"  (Mark Twain:  Life on the Mississippi)

Artists Included: Joshua Windham, Alfredo Ott III, Peter Barnitz, Angel Perdomo, James Flynn, Kay Franz, Katie Puchot, Dwight Harris, Antoine Prince, Demetria Bridges, Cheri Ben-iesau, Dianne Georgy Garrett, Marlena Doherty, Zulay Herrera, Drew Cooke, Timothy Barr Rowland, Christian Perkins, Andie Cancienne, David Rex Joyner, Danny Jupiter, Kevin Hunts and Charlie Johnson.

We are pleased to include a modern dance performance, "Carried", choreographed by Rebecca Allen, with dancers from The Studio School of Dance.

Peter Barnitz

The Wall: Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

A rendition of the proposed metaphorical/physical "Trump Wall", to be built along the southern border of the United States of America and Mexico. It is a politically neutral sculpture that sparks a conversation about issues surrounding legal/illegal immigration and border security. The aesthetically pleasing, free flowing "golden border" sculpture contrasts with its heavy subject matter. Do fences really make good neighbors?

Recently published by The New Orleans Advocate about THE WALL........

"At first, Peter Barnitz's "The Wall" looks like a stray piece of minimalist sculpture that wandered into another show.  But a closer glance reveals that the understatedly scale of a fetish object, all sinous in gold leaf.  In it's mixture of formal elegance and conceptual depth, it represents the best kind of art that Lewis' curatorial hand has selected for this year's Louisiana Contemporary.   Facing Up Tough Issues in the Louisiana Contemporary Group Show,  By:  John D'Addario - The New Orleans Advocate
